Soska Sisters Tapped as “Painkiller Jane” Directors

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada’s “Painkiller Jane” is headed for a film adaptation courtesy of horror directors The Soska Sisters. Palmiotti — via Paperfilms — and Solipsist Films’ Stephen L’Heureux are onboard to produce.

Although no concrete details about the film were stated, the Soska Sisters’ adaptation will likely follow in step with previous adaptations of Palmiotti and Quesada’s comic, which centers around a cop who goes undercover to infiltrate a drug ring. After getting caught, torture at the hands of her captors leaves her with a healing factor and a massive tolerance for physical pain. The series spun off into a made-for-TV movie for SyFy (then known as the Sci-Fi Channel) in 2005, followed by a series in 2007 that ran for a single season.

Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska — identical twin directors — focus on horror, with their recent “American Mary” garnering critical acclaim. The duo’s upcoming slate includes “See No Evil 2,” Vendetta” and “XX.”

“Painkiller Jane” returned to comics in June 2014 through Marvel’s Icon imprint for “Painkiller Jane: The 22 Brides,” written by Palmiotti with art by Juan Santacruz, Noberto Fernandez and Steve Mannion.
