The Anime Got Its Start as Light Novels

Both Orphen animes are based on a series of light novels written by Yoshinobu Akita and illustrated by Yuya Kusaka. The story revolves around the titular Orphen, a rogue sorcerer who once belonged to a mysterious academy of wizardry known as the Tower of Fang. One day, a spell cast by his adopted sister Azalie goes awry and transforms her into an enormous dragon. Confused and terrified, Azalie flies away. When the Tower of Fang discovers what happened, they disavow her existence in the interest of protecting their reputation. Enraged by the Tower's decision, Orphen decides to abandon the academy and find his sister so that he can transform her back into a human. His apprentice Majic Lin and their other companion Cleao Everlasting also tag along to help Orphen on his quest.
