HBO and New Line Cinema's upcoming The Sopranos prequel film, The Many Saints of Newark, has gained two new additions, as Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga will be joining the film's cast.
According to Variety, both's roles are currently under wraps. The film itself is said to be set during the Newark riots of the '60s. The film's script comes from Sopranos creator David Chase and producer Lawrence Konner. It is expected to bring in key characters from Sopranos lore.
Bernthal's casting comes shortly before the second season of his Netflix drama, The Punisher. Bernthal took the role in 2016 during the sophomore season of Daredevil and found himself carrying his own solo series the following year. He will also star in this year's The Peanut Butter Falcon with Shia Lebeouf. Farmiga will be having a busy year as well, with Godzilla: King of the Monsters in May, the thriller Captive State in March and Annabelle 3 in July.
The Many Saints of Newark is the latest of HBO's dramas to get the film treatment. The network is also developing a film for the 2004 hit western Deadwood that will release this spring. No release date for Newark has been announced.
