Sony Pictures has tapped Sean Durkin, writer and director of the acclaimed psychological drama Martha Marcy May Marlene, to adapt Little House on the Prairie, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.

Laura Ingalls Wilder's bestselling children's books based on her childhood memories of life in the late 19th century were famously adapted for television in a series that aired from 1974 to 1983.  The long-running drama, which starred Michael Landon and Melissa Gilbert, deviated a great deal from the source material, but a 2005 ABC miniseries followed the books more closely.

Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady, Shame) wrote the script for Sony's adaptation. David Gordon Green (Your Highness, All the Real Girls) was previously attached to direct.
