The next "Spider-Man" movie will be here sooner than you thought: Sony has moved up the release date of the film from July 28, 2017 to July 7, 2017. The film, as previously announced, will be co-produced by former Sony Pictures chairperson Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.

This move, as reported by THR, is part of a chain reaction of studio shuffling: The July 7, 2017 release date was formerly inhabited by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," which took the May 26, 2017 spot of fellow Disney franchise film "Star Wars: Episode VIII," after the latter moved to December 15, 2017. Additionally, Sony's "Jumanji" remake has taken Spidey's old slot of July 28, 2017; the Chris Van Allsburg adaptation was originally slated for Dec. 25. 2016.

The new "Spider-Man" film -- which doesn't yet have an official title -- will star Tom Holland in the title role, following the character's introduction in Marvel Studios' "Captain America: Civil War," which opens on May 6. It's the latest take on the iconic Marvel Comics character which has seen two previous incarnations at Sony, first played by Tobey Maguire and then by Andrew Garfield. Last February, Sony and Marvel announced a deal to share live-action rights to the character, which were previously solely under Sony's control. Jon Watts is set to direct the movie, with a screenplay by John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein.
