Following the departure of Bumblebee director Travis Knight, Sony's Uncharted movie has been delayed from Dec. 18, 2020 to March 5, 2021.

Three weeks ago, it was announced that Venom and Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer was rumored to take over directing duties from Knight, who dropped out due to scheduling conflicts (specifically Tom Holland's Spider-Man responsibilities). While this was a sign that Uncharted could potentially make its 2020 release date, Sony Pictures has now confirmed the delay, according to Deadline.

The Uncharted film is becoming known more for its behind-the-scenes troubles than anything else. The movie, based on the popular PlayStation series often praised for its cinematic nature, has been rumored since 2008. A laundry list of famous writers and directors have been engaged and disengaged with the project since then, and in 2017, Holland was cast as series protagonist Nathan Drake, followed by Mark Wahlberg two years later as Drake's mentor Victor Sullivan. This iteration of the film was to be directed by the aforementioned Knight, before his departure, and written by Joe Carnahan.

Currently, the film -- said to be a prequel to the games -- remains without an official director.

Uncharted stars Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. The film arrives in theaters March 5, 2021.
