Sony Pictures was expected to release a Spider-Man 3 teaser in December, but something is apparently standing in the studio's way.

According to Daniel Richtman -- an entertainment "scooper" with an impressive track record -- Sony is reportedly waiting to drop the much-anticipated teaser trailer until after Tobey Maguire is signed on to the film. With no actual confirmation of Maguire's involvement in Spider-Man 3 and the end of December quickly approaching, the studio may not meet its deadline.

Sony released teaser footage for both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home the December before each movie released. In October, Sony's Brazilian Executive Marketing Director Camila Pacheco also confirmed that the first trailer for Spider-Man 3 was going to release sometime in December. However, there is no announcement of an upcoming trailer and no mention of the film at the virtual Comic Con Experience (CCXP) 2020.

Although there have been many rumors that former web-slingers Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will appear in the upcoming film, Sony has not made any official announcements. If Richtman's information is correct, this means Sony has been filming Spider-Man 3 for over two months without Maguire.

Directed by Jon Watts, the currently untitled sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina and Benedict Cumberbatch. The film arrives in theaters Dec. 17, 2021.
