While many studios are readying to return to Comic-Con International: San Diego to promote their forthcoming offerings, Sony is opting to sit out the festivities, as it has been reported that the studio will not have a presence at Hall H this year..

According to Deadline, Sony will be joining both Universal and Warner Bros. by sitting out this year's SDCC presentations. This decision ultimately boils down to the studio having its hands full marketing both Spider-Man: Far From Home and Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It's said that Sony will, instead, seek out another opportunity to promote its forthcoming slate.

Sony has a rather sizeable genre slate on its plate with films such as Zombieland 2: Double Tap, Charlie's Angels and an adaption of the Valiant comic Bloodshot, just to name a few. All these films films -- along with the Jared Leto-led Spider-Man spinoff Morbius -- could have potentially played well at a Hall H presentation, especially considering how the studio just dropped the first trailer for Charlie's Angels this morning. On the other hand, though, Far From Home and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood are both huge films in their own right and it's understandable that Sony would rather focus on properly marketing those for now.

The studio is expected to return to SDCC next year, at which point it will presumably be turning up the marketing for Morbius, which is currently slated to hit theaters on July 31, 2020.

As it stands, the only studios sent to make presentations at SDCC this year are Disney/Marvel Studios, Paramount and New Line, with the latter of the three hosting a Scare Diego Wednesday Night during the convention. It's expected that Marvel Studios will peel back the curtain on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe during its presentation after skipping out last year.
