In light of the protests across the United States stemming from the death of George Floyd, Sony has announced that it's postponing the PlayStation 5 showcase originally planned for Thursday, June 4."We have decided to postpone the PlayStation 5 event scheduled for June 4," the official PlayStation Twitter account posted. "While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard."

On May 25, George Floyd died in Minneapolis, MN after Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin placed his knee onto the neck of a handcuffed Floyd, who was lying face-down on the street, for nearly nine minutes. Chauvin and the other three responding officers were terminated the next day, and Chauvin was later charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

Since then, protests have been taking place both in the U.S. and overseas in the wake of Floyd's death -- the latest, highly publicized killing of a black individual by law enforcement officers.

PlayStation 5 is expected to go on sale this holiday season.
