According to the LinkedIn profile of former PlayStation Studio Head Michael Mumbauer, Sony's new "secret" San Diego-based studio is working to expand upon an old franchise from the company's past. The team is referred to as an "all-star, AAA Action/Adventure development team," indicating that the new studio is comprised of people with industry experience. Now, the main question in players' minds is what exactly it's working on.

There's plenty of reason for players to suspect the IP in question is Uncharted, originally a Naughty Dog series. However, without tangible proof, it just as well could be any number of other popular franchises from Sony's past. Here's what we want to see.

Uncharted Rumors

Nathan Drake firing a gun in Uncharted 4

A new entry in the Uncharted series makes sense. With filming wrapped for the Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland, it's a perfect time to reintroduce players to the series with another game. With Uncharted 4, Naughty Dog neatly tied up Nathan Drake's story, but left the narrative open to be explored through additional characters, namely, Nathan Drake's daughter or reoccurring series characters like Chloe Fraser.

Chloe was the protagonist of the standalone expansion to Uncharted 4, Lost Legacy. Despite forgoing the mainstay protagonist Nathan Drake, Lost Legacy elated fans with the familiar and enjoyable experience they'd come to expect from an Uncharted title, proving the series can stand on its own without Drake heading up an entry. Depending on the direction a potential sequel might tread, there are a number of characters and adventures that could still be explored.

Other tidbits of information point to a new Uncharted title in the works based on job postings and the people involved in the project. In addition to specifying that the new studio is working on an action-adventure game (something that many immediately associate with Uncharted), Mumbauer, was the head of Visual Arts Services Group, the team that produced the motion capture and visual elements used in some of Sony's biggest games. Naughty Dog has also expressed that it would be okay with Uncharted continuing in one form or another, so long as it had some element of quality control in any future project.

inFAMOUS Return

inFamous Cover

inFAMOUS is another contender for Sony's secret project, and a series we'd love to see return. inFAMOUS has been absent for nearly a generation, as its last core title release was inFAMOUS: Second Son, a launch window title for the PlayStation 4. With Sucker Punch moving on to other projects after the success of Ghost of Tsushima and its ongoing track record with high-quality titles, it'd make sense for the developer to loop in support from Sony's new studio.

Interestingly, Sucker Punch renewed the domain infamousthegame.com. This corresponded with a series of job postings for what, presumably, is the next title the studio is working on. The timing fits neatly with the ongoing work Sony's new studio had undertaken. Knowing the team is at work on an action-adventure title, inFAMOUS is one of the few dormant IPs that match that description.

If Marvel's Spider-Man's success taught Sony anything, it's that superhero stories still resonate with players. The company would do well to capitalize on that momentum by offer up its own brand of heroic storytelling. The first two inFAMOUS titles focused on Cole MacGrath, a courier who found himself with super-powers after a tragic event.

After wrapping Cole's story up in the second title, inFAMOUS: Second Son introduced Delsin Rowe as the series' second protagonist. A conduit like Cole before him, Delsin was unique in his ability to absorb the powers of other conduits. There's also Abigail Walker from the title inFAMOUS: First Light, who appeared as an ally in Second Son. Naughty Dog left the narrative open enough for any of these heroes to return in a future inFAMOUS title.

Bloodborne Revival

Bloodborne Old Hunters Art

Though only off the scene for close to six years, a sequel to Bloodborne certainly fits the description of a AAA action-adventure title. Though FromSoftware has previously mentioned that it doesn't feel strongly about making sequels (the Dark Souls series standing as an anomaly), Sony would be hard-pressed to ignore a well-received title that sold over 200 million copies.

Even if FromSoftware has its hands full working on Elden Ring, collaboration with, or even a hand-off to, Sony's new studio might be a way to allow players to experience a Bloodborne sequel on PS5. Bloodborne wasn't a cinematic-heavy title, but there's always the chance Sony and FromSoftware were partnering with their experts to produce next-gen quality motion capture or a higher fidelity presentation for the title.
