Sony is reportedly developing a Spider-Man spinoff based on another one of his villains, but there's a catch: he's already dead.

According to The Illuminerdi, the studio may be planning a solo film based on Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, in addition to previously announced films Venom 2 and Morbius. Though Marvel's Spider-Man: Far From Home seemingly showed the Jake Gyllenhaal character's death, Sony wants the actor to reprise his role in a solo film. It's worth noting there has been speculation to whether Mysterio actually died at the end of Far From Home.

A planned Mysterio solo film from Sony could give credit to the rumor that Sony is setting up a movie about the Sinister Six, who are a group of Spider-Man's most notorious villains. The upcoming film Morbius was also thought to tease a Sinister Six film, as the trailer showed an appearance by Spider-Man: Homecoming villain Adrian Toomes, aka Vulture.

Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Mysterio made his first comic book appearance in 1964's The Amazing Spider-Man #13. Mostly depicted wearing a long cape and fishbowl-like helmet, Mysterio utilizes illusions and special effects to battle Spider-Man. Gyllenhaal portrayed the first live-action version of Mysterio, though the character has already appeared in several animated Spider-Man series, including Spider-Man: The Animated Series and The Spectacular Spider-Man.
