A new rumor indicates the Jared Leto-led Morbius film will feature an incredibly important character to the Living Vampire's story: Martine Bancroft, his fiancée.

According to That Hashtag Show, Bancroft, who first appeared in 1971's The Amazing Spider-Man #102, will appear as the film's female lead. The report seems pretty confident Bancroft will appear in Morbius, and the character's importance to the Living Vampire in the comics makes her inclusion pretty likely.

At this time, there's no official word on who will play Bancroft in Morbius, or if the character will actually appear in the film. However, depending on the success of the movie, there's a good chance Bancroft will play a major role in any possible sequels to Morbius, which may even see the character echo her comics transformation and become a vampire herself.

Having first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #101, Michael Morbius was the brilliant but flawed biologist who is transformed into the gothic member of Spider-Man’s rogues gallery. The character became a fan-favorite in the long-running ’90s cartoon Spider-Man: The Animated Series, featuring in several episodes, including his own self-titled episode, “Morbius.”

Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff film Morbius will be directed by Daniel Espinosa from a screenplay by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama. The film does not currently have a release date, but is expected to start filming in November.
