Sony Looks to Snag Seth Rogen’s End-Times Comedy Apocalypse

How would some of the funniest comedic actors of their generation deal with the end of the world? That’s the basic idea behind Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s directorial debut The Apocalypse, based on the short film Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse written by Goldberg and Jason Stone and starring Rogen and Jay Baruchel. The full eight-and-a-half-minute short wasn’t shown publicly but you can see the not-safe-for-work trailer below.

The expanded feature-length movie is set to star Rogen and Baruchel along with Jonah Hill, James Franco, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson as themselves all dealing with the apocalypse. The project has been moving at a snail’s pace since 2008, but Heat Vision reports that Sony Pictures is now negotiating to finance and distribute the $30 million to $40 million film, which will mark the directorial debut of Rogen and Goldberg.

Sony of course distributed Pineapple Express, which was also written by Rogen and Goldberg and featured the entire Apocalypse cast, minus Baruchel, so the pairing might be a match made in we’re-about-to-die-and-go-to-heaven.
