The next generation of home console video games is poised to begin this holiday season, with the launch of Sony's PlayStation 5.

While the company has kept details surrounding the upcoming console under wraps, including the console's physical appearance, Sony has officially unveiled the dedicated website for the PS5. Details about the new PlayStation remain scarce, though visitors that sign up for updates from Sony through the website are promised to receive notifications regarding the console's launch date, pricing and list of launch titles once the news has been shared with the public.

While the technical specifications for the PlayStation 5 have since been leaked, featuring increased processing power and memory capabilities approximately on par with the PlayStation 4 Pro, this has yet to be confirmed by Sony.

Interestingly, Sony will not include a presentation for the PlayStation 5 at June's E3 conference, one of the largest video gaming exhibitions in the world. Instead, Sony's major competitor in the home console wars, Microsoft, is slated to have a presentation regarding the upcoming holiday release of its own next generation of consoles, the Xbox Series X.
