Sonic the Hedgehog fans will have plenty of stories to look forward to this summer, as IDW Publishing has announced a new writer for the ongoing Sonic comic. Artist Evan Stanley, who had previously illustrated the series, will also take over writing duties with issue #33.

IDW is also launching a miniseries titled Sonic: Bad Guys by writer Ian Flynn and artist Jack Lawrence, which focuses on Dr, Starline, the evil assistant to Sonic's nemesis Dr. Robotnik.

Issue #33 will see Tails and Sonic trying to fix their damaged ally, Omega, while Rouge, Shadow and Cream team up to help him in their own way. Meanwhile, the Bad Guys miniseries will see Starline take over one of Robotnik's abandoned bases after the mad scientist rejects him.

"The world of Sonic has a truly amazing creative legacy, and I've always pushed myself to make my contributions as meaningful and worthwhile as they can be -- and that's more important than ever now," Stanley said in a statement. "I hope I can deepen the world of IDW's Sonic The Hedgehog comics, exploring new places and characters while continuing to deliver exciting adventures about Sonic and his friends!"

Sonic the Hedgehog #33 and Sonic: Bad Guys #1 currently have no release date.
