Netflix has released a second teaser trailer for Sonic Prime, its upcoming 3D animates series based on Sega's flagship video game franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog.

The new Sonic Prime teaser sends Sonic the Hedgehog (Deven Mack) into battle against the villainous Dr. Eggman (Brian Drummond), who is attempting to steal the Paradox Prism. The Blue Blur is flanked by some fan-favorite allies, including Miles "Tails" Prower (Ashleigh Ball), Knuckles the Echidna (Adam Nurada), Amy Rose (Shannon Chan-Kent) and Rouge the Bat (Kazumi Evans). When the Paradox Prism is destroyed, Sonic finds himself in an alternate, dystopian reality, where he joins forces with battle-hardened versions of his friends.

Interestingly, some of Sonic Prime's voice actors have been involved in the Sonic franchise before. Prior to taking over the role of Eggman, Drummond actually voiced Knuckles in the infamous 1990s animated series Sonic Underground. Meanwhile, before stepping into the role of Amy, Chan-Kent (who is perhaps best known for her role as Misa Amane in the English dub of Death Note) played a waitress in the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie from 2020. Not featured in the new Sonic Prime trailer are Shadow the Hedgehog and Big the Cat, both of whom will be voiced by Ian Hanlin.

Gotta Go Fast... Into the Sonic-Verse

"In Sonic Prime, the action-packed adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog go into overdrive when a run-in with Dr. Eggman results in a literal universe-shattering event," an official synopsis for the upcoming animated series reads. "Desperate to piece his prime reality back together and save his old friends, Sonic races through the Shatterverse, discovering strange worlds and enlisting new friends in an epic adventure of a lifetime! Slated for debut in winter 2022, the series is being animated at WildBrain's Vancouver studio." More specifically, Sonic Prime is due to premiere on Netflix on Thursday, Dec. 15.

Sonic Prime is the first major Sonic animated series since Sonic Boom, which aired on Cartoon Network and Boomerang from 2014 to 2017. That said, the Blue Blur has certainly maintained an on-screen presence in the interim. The aforementioned live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film hit theaters in early 2020, with a sequel following suit earlier this year. A third live-action Sonic film is in the works, as is a Paramount+ spinoff series focusing on Knuckles. Sonic is also gearing up for the release of his first open-world video game, Sonic Frontiers, which is slated to release in just a few days on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Sonic Prime spin dashes its way onto Netflix on Dec. 15.
