WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog #41, by Ian Flynn, Adam Bryce Thomas, Matt Herms and Shawn Lee, on sale now.

Some of Sonic's most dangerous foes have returned, and they won't stop until they've achieved total destruction. The Deadly Six first appeared in Sonic Lost World and brought Sonic and Eggman together in an attempt to stop them. The Deadly Six were thwarted by the unlikely duo and seemingly went on their own way. That is until Eggman's apprentice, Dr. Starline, made the mistake of summoning the dangerous team to Eggman's flagship back in Sonic the Hedgehog #25 by Ian Flynn, Adam Bryce Thomas, Matt Herms and Shawn Lee.

Starline brought the Six to the flagship in an effort to give Eggman more time to study the metal virus since they could control robots. This proved to be a failure and the Deadly Six turned on Starline. This forced Eggman and Starline to flee and recruit help from Sonic and his friends. Through extreme efforts, the partnered groups were able to overcome the Deadly Six yet again. Their victory led to many of the villains being imprisoned or banished to distant lands. Zavok, the leader of the team, was imprisoned in the guitar-shaped Everhold Prison.

Zavok Deadly Six Starline prison

Sonic the Hedgehog: Bad Guys by Flynn, Jack Lawrence, Leonardo Ito and Lee saw Dr. Starline release Zavok from his imprisonment. The crew worked well together until Starline inevitably betrayed them. After the betrayal, Zavok attempted to steal an army from Eggman but was exposed by Mimic. Eggman was alerted to Zavok's location and injured the Zeti in a firefight. Zavok was able to escape with one of Eggman's bots, but the constant betrayals by his new team brought forward a desire to reform the Deadly Six.

Sonic the Hedgehog #41 depicts Zavok collecting the members of the Deadly Six to enact revenge on Sonic and the gang. Zavok is disappointed to find two of the Zeti not causing any havoc and living as lesser beings to everyone else. He frees one from imprisonment in a small village before laying ruin to the entire town. They are then met by the remaining members of the Deadly Six. Zavok developed a plan to attack towns until Sonic was drawn out, thus they could have a battle to the death. One of the other members suggested it would be wiser to attack the home base of the Restoration. Zavok agrees with this plan, and they began their plot to destroy the Restoration.

Deadly Six Sonic full team attack

Sonic certainly will have his hands full with this newest threat, but he isn't the only hero preparing for a showdown with a team of his greatest foes. The Amazing Spider-Man has been slowly teasing the reformation of the Sinister Six. Otto Octavius and some of Spidey's other famous villains have gathered super-villain teams to try and take the web-slinger down. Amazing Spider-Man #67 by Nick Spencer, Marcelo Ferreria and Carlos Gómez saw the return of Otto Octavius and it seems he's ready to gather a new team. A sinister voice within Otto's head told him that he could return his memories, but he would need to gather a team. Otto was seen recruiting his first member in Sandman in Amazing Spider-Man #68 by Nick Spencer, Ed Brisson, Marcelo Ferreira, Carlos Gomez, Ze Carlos, Wayne Faucher, Morry Hollowell, Andrew Crossley, Erick Arciniega and VC’s Joe Caramagna.

Facing off against six villains at once is a dangerous task for any hero. Usually threats that large fall to the responsibility of the Avengers or the Justice League, but Sonic and Spidey have been known to stop these villains in the past. With both Otto and Zavok having a strong determination to accomplish their goals, Sonic and Spider-Man are sure to have their hands full in the near future.
