WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog #40, by Evan Stanley, Adam Bryce Thomas, Maria Keane, John Wycough, Heather Breckel, Leonardo Ito and Shawn Lee, on sale now.

Doctor Eggman is Sonic's most notorious enemy. Eggman is consistently seen fighting Sonic through armies of robotic soldiers and machines. His armies have been funded through a multitude of different operations. What started with a rather large inheritance from his grandfather became much more as Robotnik started up multiple successful security companies through the use of his robots. It turns out that Eggman has another source for his funds in Sonic the Hedgehog #40 by Evan Stanley, Adam Bryce Thomas, Maria Keane, John Wycough, Heather Breckel, Leonardo Ito and Shawn Lee, which revealed that Eggman livestreams.

The Restoration had discovered a strange building that had been erected just a few miles offshore of Seaside City. Sonic, Tails and Amy went to check it out and stumbled into a portal upon entering the building. The portal transported them to a labyrinth which they escaped after running for a long time. This led them to an abandoned town filled with test dummies. As Sonic and the gang became more familiar with their surroundings, they were attacked by a gang of Badniks. Sonic was able to defeat the Badniks, but Eggman chimed in to let Sonic know that they had stumbled into a testing ground for his most cutting-edge technology.

Eggman had complete control of his program. He could alter the effects of gravity as well as continually send threats at the heroes. As Sonic's team escaped from the ghost town, they stumbled into another one of Eggman's traps. He had sent three giant remote-controlled Badniks to tackle Sonic. While Eggman initially had an advantage, his machines were quickly stopped by the heroes. Sonic's team was then saved by Tangle who pulled the heroes from the simulation. They escaped Eggman's clutches and destroying his training facility in the process.

After Sonic and the team departed, it was revealed that Eggman had been livestreaming his most recent battle with Sonic. While he was virtually fighting Sonic, he was also providing fan service to his followers on Sonic's version of Twitch. Some familiar faces seemed to be watching Eggman's stream. Starline and Tangle both left negative comments on the stream, while some of Eggman's Badniks commented on how great Eggman was. The stream never became too heated as Eggman's right-hand robot Orbot was moderating the stream's chat.

Eggman isn't the only comic presence to recently start a side-gig as a streamer. Spider-Man was doing something eerily similar for J. Jonah Jameson and Threats and Menaces. After failing to start a career running an Instagram for his new pet, Peter Parker decided to take a tour of Norah Winters' new business in Amazing Spider-Man #61 by Nick Spencer, Patrick Gleason, Edgar Delgado and Joe Caramagna. The tour quickly turned into a job opportunity for Spider-Man. Norah wanted to livestream the Web-slinger's heroic actions.

Pete was initially hesitant as he did not want any of his secrets to get out, but Jameson offered to be Spidey's man in the chair. Jameson would watch over the stream and make sure no sensitive information was released to the public. Threats and Menaces supplied Spidey with a brand new suit that had all the livestreaming capabilities he would need to broadcast Spidey's heroics to millions of  viewers. Spidey's time with Threats and Menaces would prove to be short-lived as Jameson became too ambitious. After Jonah's mistake of letting citizens operate robots to help Spidey, Peter felt it was time to hang up the livestreaming suit.

Spider-Man and Dr. Eggman are both polarizing personalities in their respected universes. While they might fall on opposite ends of the hero spectrum, they have gathered quite a following of fans. It would make sense that both of these characters would try to turn a profit on their image, and what easier way to do it than to livestream their everyday actions. Ultimately, this proved to be a short-lived venture on both of their parts, and it is unlikely they will try to capitalize on this fad in the future.
