Doctor Ivo Robotnik, who has been Sonic The Hedgehog's main enemy since 1991, is a very intelligent evil mastermind. With an IQ of 300, he has taken control over robots, animals, and other people to use in his attempts to conquer the world. This scientist will stop at nothing to achieve world domination, despite consistently being interrupted by Sonic and his friends.

However, despite being so intelligent, Eggman appears to frequently overlook the lack of security when it comes to his weapon bases. This rings true for his cyber-security as well, as Eggman's enemies (and even former apprentices) are able to bypass both forms of Eggman's security.

In Sonic The Hedgehog: The Bad Guys, by Ian Flynn and Jack Lawrence, Doctor Starline is able to sneak into the Eggman Base Sigma. In order to fulfill his plans of helping Dr. Eggman from the sidelines, he is on the hunt for any spare weapons he can find from Eggman's bases. Starline is able to sneak past the guards with ease, avoiding any physical altercations he can. He is only halted when he enters the incorrect password when attempting to take over the base, sounding off alarms throughout the whole base.

Doctor Starline, though not adequately prepared for battle, is left with little choice as he becomes surrounded by guards. He is able to fight them off and tries to escape using his Warp Topaz before remembering it had been taken by Dr. Eggman. Starline escapes on foot, berating himself for being careless and arrogant, comparing himself to Eggman. Doctor Starline returns to his own lair, where he reveals he has successfully hoarded a large amount of Eggman's technology. It is within this issue that it is revealed that Eggman's faulty security is not due to any lack of intelligence, but rather an overinflated sense of ego and strength.

Sonic and Tails

In Sonic The Hedgehog issue #33 by Evan Stanley and Reggie Graham, Sonic and Tails are able to infiltrate a base abandoned by Eggman. As Tails is attempting to repair Omega, he realizes that without the proper tools, he cannot read or reverse the code that makes up Omega. Overhearing this, Sonic reveals that he knows of an abandoned base by Windmill Village. He believes that Tails might be able to find the proper blueprints to repair Omega there. Tails tells Sonic that while they might find the blueprints there, they would still need the proper equipment and parts. Rouge and Amy agree to find the necessary parts while Sonic and Tails explore Eggman's abandoned base.

Sonic and Tails arrive at Windmill Village and enter the abandoned base. Sonic tells Tails that he had remembered seeing the base on one of his runs and made a mental note in case it came in handy later. The base is dark and creepy, with no guards or any type of security to protect the equipment Eggman has left behind. After teasing Tails about there being ghosts in the base, the pair stumble upon a hidden room. Within the room is a large computer terminal, which Tails uses to hack into the Eggnet with ease.

Eggman may be a genius, but he is extremely naive when it comes to security.
