Chewbacca Takes Control in First Solo: A Star Wars Story Clip

solo chewbacca clip

Perfectly timed to May the Fourth, Solo: A Star Wars Story debuts its first clip, depicting an iconic moment from franchise history: when Chewbacca becomes the co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon.

We saw a portion of this sequence last month, in the most recent trailer, when Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo was surprised to learn his new Wookiee friend is 190 years old. But in this longer, 45-second scene, the young rogue struggles to become accustomed to the controls of the Millennium Falcon, evade pursuing Imperial TIE Fighters, and avoid oncoming asteroids.

Although Emilia Clarke's Qi'ra is in the co-pilot's seat, Chewie steps in to quickly demonstrate he's better suited for the role. As he moves into his now-familiar position in the cockpit, the importance of the moment is helpfully underscored by John Williams' legendary theme.

They are joined by Thandie Newton as Val, Phoebe Waller-Bridge L3-37, Paul Bettany as Dryden Vos, and Woody Harrelson as Tobias Beckett. The film opens May 25.
