The latest installment in the 41-year-old space-fantasy franchise Solo: A Star Wars Story may be less than a month into its theatrical run, but the first details about the forthcoming Blu-ray release have already started to trickle out.
While there's still no release date or special features details, Best Buy has released its first look at the 4K Ultra HD Steelbook, which shines the spotlight on the gorgeous Millennium Falcon (prior to its damage in the Kessel Run). As for the Target-exclusive, no cover art has been released yet, but fans can get a sneak peek at the miniature Millennium Falcon figure that's included with the Blu-ray bundle.
While many fans are eagerly anticipating the home release, there has been a lot of speculation about why Solo is underperforming at the box-office, with reasons ranging from backlash against Star Wars: The Last Jedi to bad timing in an already packed May. A recent analyst report indicated that the movie’s poor marketing was to blame for the film’s struggles. That same report estimated a final domestic gross of approximately $200 million for Solo.
The film, which has already earned over $260 million at the worldwide box office, was reportedly the most expensive chapter in the Star Wars franchise, costing upwards of $250 million before factoring in marketing costs. The movie’s high price tag is largely due to reshoots following the replacement of original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
Directed by Ron Howard from a script by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke as Qi’ra and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. They’re joined by Thandie Newton as Val, Phoebe Waller-Bridge L3-37, Paul Bettany as Dryden Vos and Woody Harrelson as Tobias Beckett. The film is now in theaters.
