Doomsday Clock had revealed Manhattan was responsible for the massive revisions to the DC Universe leading to the creation of the New 52 era. After meeting Superman, an inspired Manhattan restored much of the classic DCU continuity, including the Justice Society of America, before returning to his own world.

The upcoming event serves as both a sequel to Snyder and Capullo's previous event Dark Nights: Metal, and the culmination of Snyder's recently concluded run on Justice League, which had the omnipotent villain Perpetua triumph with an upgraded Legion of Doom.
