Snyder Looks Towards “Justice League”: “Maybe There’s A Bigger Enemy To Fight”

With “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” flying into theaters in a few months, more details about the follow-up “Justice League” films are starting to emerge. Since both movies are directed by Zack Snyder, that means the director can give hints about the comparatively mysterious “Justice League” films while answering questions about “BvS,” this spring’s superhero showdown.

Snyder did just that in an interview with Obsev, where he slipped in a possible tease at what’s to come in “Justice League,” which arrives in theaters in 2017.

“We’re working on ‘Justice League’ right now, right?” said Snyder. “In a weird way, ‘Justice League’ is the next step for these characters to form a bigger team. Maybe there’s a bigger enemy to fight.”

In addition to Batman and Superman, “Dawn of Justice” will also feature Wonder Woman and appearances from Aquaman and possibly the Flash. While talking about “Batman v Superman,” the director revealed what he believed to be the most enjoyable thing about the film.

“I think that the fun of the movie is that in the end, it’s drama,” said Snyder. “In the end it’s about, they have to figure out each other in order to fight each other, so it’s really about what makes them tick and how that works out in a conflict.”

He also praised his two lead actors, Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, for doing the hard work required of superhero movies. “It’s a difficult process, making a superhero movie. [It’s] a lot of costumes and long hours… We shot in Detroit in the winter and it’s cold, and it was hot in the summer. There’s a lot of adversity, but those two guys were troopers and they really just put their heads down and did amazing work.”

Snyder also praised Affleck specifically after being asked about the initial controversy surrounding his casting. “[Affleck] is an amazing Batman, obviously. Of course I’ve seen the movie,” said Snyder. “He’s a great Batman. He’s big, he’s great.”

You can see the whole interview below. “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” opens on March 25; “Justice League Part One” opens on November 17, 2017.
