WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Snowpiercer Season 2, Episode 3, "A Great Odyssey."
With Mr. Wilford working his politics again in the second season of Snowpiercer, Layton, Bess and Mel are all worried about him having secret agents on the Eternal Engine. They know he's got soldiers like Icy Bob over on Big Alice, and now, signs of a loyalist cult are popping up on their ark, suggesting he's got a lot more power than people think.
And now, with a civil war brewing once again, some new, sinister players have emerged, ready to pick a side and help tilt the balance of power.
Bess, as the new detective, is investigating the cult because she doesn't want another situation like the cannibals in Season 1. She's figured out from Lights' mutilation that they're leaving people's fingers on as a permanent "W" -- a sign that shows Wilford is in control. She then heads, with Layton's advice, to the Breachmen, where a familiar face in the form of Boki appears.
The European giant didn't appear much in Season 1 apart from helping Mel fix the train and celebrating with her, the driver Ben and other elites before the revolution, and he would stay out the war that saw Layton take over, disenchanted that Mel was pretending to be Wilford. In his eyes, this was karma for their sins and for Mel imitating the almighty Wilford, but with news that the boss is back, Boki has a new lease on life.
When Bess visits with Roche, they're in their gym where Boki's back-up is training. Immediately, it's an intimidating sight because this crew of men and women look like they should have a spot on American Gladiators. Bess tries to question them on Lights, but they laugh it off, claiming they're just waiting for Wilford to take over. But from their condescension and subtle hints, Roche believes they're the ones slowly moving uptrain, scaring and wounding people in the process.
When they all gather in the Night Car as part of an emergency meeting so Snowpiercer can go over the Rockies later on, they're even drinking to Wilford. People are buying in, whether they're willingly converted or scared is another questions, but Bess is perturbed because Boki keeps taunting her. She knows they don't have the man-power to fight a group like this, as her crew was beaten badly earlier this season by Icy Bob when they tried to storm Big Alice. With an even more formidable force, it's clear that if Boki's team really cuts loose on their train, it will be a losing battle.
