Snowpiercer has switched networks once again. The show, which was originally ordered to series by TNT before moving to TBS, will once again be airing on the network that initially commissioned it, TNT.
"We’ve had the unique opportunity to more thoroughly test and explore where this show will best perform. While we are still adding dramas to TBS… after further research and consideration we’ve decided to keep Snowpiercer on TNT," network president Kevin Reilly said. "Now that we’ve seen this incredible post-apocalyptic sci-fi series in its entirety, and better understand the audience this show will appeal to, we’re confident it will perform strongest on TNT."
TNT first ordered a pilot of Snowpiercer in November 2016 before officially picking it up for a full season in January 2018. Despite not airing until spring 2020, the series has already been greenlit for a second season.
Snowpiercer was originally adapted into a movie in 2013. It was directed by Bong Joon-Ho (The Host) and starred Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton and Jamie Bell and was based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige, created by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette.
Snowpiercer is being developed for television by Josh Friedman with Bong Joon-Ho serving as an executive producer, while Graeme Manson serves as showrunner. The series stars Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Lena Hall, Annalise Basso, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand and Jaylin Fletcher.
