Based Jacques Lob's French graphic novel Le Transperceneige, TNT's Snowpiercer is a post-apocalyptic road trip with no pit stops. It follows life in a train created by the eccentric billionaire Mr. Wilford and its passengers who are eternally locked in vicious class warfare with nowhere to go. While the show received its share of criticism, it also has an avalanche of viewers that warrant a Season 2.

Here's what we know about Snowpiercer Season 2's plot, release date and trailer.

Snowpiercer's Story So Far

Snowpiercer Season 1 chronicles the remnants of humanity who have taken shelter in an ever-moving train after mankind's actions brought upon an ice age. The wealthiest passengers paid huge sums of money to live in the first-class, followed by "highly skilled" professionals in the second class, blue-collar workers in the third class, and the ones that forced their way onto the train before everything froze in the tail, living off scraps in inhumane conditions.

The show begins with the scent of revolt in the air. The "tailies" are ready to take up arms against the rich, but Andre Layton, their leader, is called upon by Melanie Cavill, the voice of the train, to solve a murder. Layton agrees, knowing that it would allow him to infiltrate the train and find allies up front so that they could plan a better rebellion this time — one that could be successful.

Layton figures out that LJ, the daughter of an influential first class family, The Folgers, was behind the murder. But in the process, he also realizes Wilford is not actually on the train as Melanie Cavill lead them to believe. After a brief period of being rendered senseless by Melanie, he tells LJ the truth about Melanie leaving Wilford behind. This results in a first class coup allowing the "tailies" to launch an assault. But after a massive fight that ends with humongous losses on both sides, the rebellion comes to a standstill with the Folgers now in charge of the first class.

Meanwhile, Melanie plots with Layton to take down the Folgers and their army by disconnecting part of their train at a switch track. Layton does as planned but in the end reluctantly sacrifices his own friends, who had been taken as prisoners. After all the bloodshed is finished, Melanie hands over control of the train to Layton and sets up a democratic form of governance.

But as the train nears Chicago, Snowpiercer picks up a signal from Big Alice, a supply train running on a prototype of the Eternal Engine. Big Alice soon clamps itself to the Snowpiercer and takes control. Fearing Wilford to be in control of Big Alice, Melanie gets up on the train to cut the link, but is thrown off when the train stops abruptly. A young lady then emerges from Big Alice demanding Snowpiercer's surrender. Much to everyone's disbelief, she claims to be Alexandra Cavill, the believed-to-be-dead daughter of Melanie Cavill.

Snowpiercer Season 2's Plot

While the show draws inspiration from the 2013 film and the graphic novel before it, it has developed a life of its own, so it's difficult to predict what will happen in the coming season. That being said, here's the synopsis for Snowpiercer Season 2.

At the end of season one, the survivors of the revolution are trying to pick up the pieces and maintain a fragile peace amongst the now merged classes with Layton emerging as the train’s leader. Discovering Mr. Wilford is alive and headed their way on a rival train, Melanie risks going outside to prevent him from invading Snowpiercer. While she’s out there, it’s revealed that Alexandra, Melanie’s daughter, who she thought had died, is alive and has become Wilford’s dedicated protegee. In season two, an entirely new power struggle emerges, causing a dangerous rift as people are divided between their loyalty to Layton and to Mr. Wilford, who has a new train, new technology and a game plan that keeps everyone guessing. While Layton battles Wilford for the soul of Snowpiercer, Melanie leads the charge on a shocking new discovery that could change the fate of humanity.
