Snowpiercer Is Giving Away Cricket Powder-Based 'Bug Bars' at SDCC

TBS' television adaptation of Snowpiercer is coming to Comic-Con International in San Diego in a big way next week, as upcoming series will be giving away a special tie-in food at the convention.

TBS is teaming EXO, a subsidiary of the Aspire Food Group, to give away "Bug Bars," protein bars made from cricket powder, exclusively at the event from Thursday, July 18 to Sunday, July 21 in the San Diego Convention Center. By entering their email into vending machines at TBS’s Snowpiercer Booth 4215 on the show floor, fans will receive the Bug Bars inspired by the post-apocalyptic series. The bars may contain product that could potentially trigger a reaction from those with crustacean and shellfish allergies, and may contain peanuts, almonds, and coconuts.

"It’s a thrill for me, as co-founder and CEO of a company dedicated to normalizing the consumption of insects in the western world, to have this chance for so many to taste a part of the Snowpiercer story I’m such a fan of while hopefully joining the two billion people who already consider insects a normal cuisine," said Aspire Food Group co-founder and CEO Mohammed Ashour in a statement. "Our Snowpiercer cricket bars have a solid texture and ingredients like peanuts and strawberries so the taste is more familiar while you’re trying something new. I wouldn’t typically consider a custom product partnership, but the alignment of Snowpiercer with Aspire’s own path of radical technology solutions to the real-world challenges of food insecurity and climate change made for a perfect partnership.”

Snowpiercer will also have its own panel on Saturday, July 20 from 3-3:50 pm in the Indigo Ballroom of the Hilton San Diego Bayfront featuring executive producer and showrunner Graeme Manson along with stars Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Lena Hall and Steven Ogg.
