Starz is developing a second season of its upcoming anthology series A Moment in Time. Titled Murder Was The Case, the second season will focus on Calvin Broadus aka Snoop Dogg’s 1993 murder trial.

"Murder Was the Case is an incredible story," Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson told The Hollywood Reporter. The rapper is executive producing the project as part of a four-year deal made with Starz back in 2016, with Snoop Dogg listed as an executive producer as well. "Snoop had the biggest album in the country and was fighting for his freedom in the courtroom," Jackson continued. "The only place to go on this incredible ride is with G-Unit Film & Television. I’m excited to be working with Snoop to bring it to television."

The year was 1993 when Philip Woldemariam, a member of a rival gang, was shot and killed by Snoop's bodyguard, leading to the two's arrest. At the time of the trial, Snoop's debut Doggystyle was the No. 1 album in the world, with the rapper celebrating the success of his hit song "Murder Was the Case." Prosecutors built much of their case around the album's violent lyrics, giving particular attention to "Murder Was the Case."

The rapper and his bodyguard were ultimately acquitted of the murder charges. A Moment in Time: Murder Was the Case will recount the events of the 1993 shooting and explore how the publicity around the case and trial impacted Snoop Dogg's career.

Snoop Dogg told THR, "I am excited to finally tell the story of Murder Was the Case. This was a pivotal moment in my life and career, and I've deliberately waited until I found the right partner to bring this to the screen. You are about to witness the strength of street knowledge."

Murder Was the Case is still in the early stages of development and currently searching for a writer. Still unreleased, a Moment in Time's first season, The Massacre, will focus on 50 Cent's rivalry with rapper The Game, which culminated in a murder-for-hire plot that sent music executive James Rosemond to prison.

There is still no word on a release date for A Moment in Time: Murder Was the Case, but fans can hear Snoop's voicework in his latest role as Cousin Itt in The Addams Family 2which hit theaters this past October. For his part, 50 Cent has been producing Starz shows like BMF and Power, while also acting in the upcoming The Expendables 4, which is set to arrive in theaters next year.
