For G.I. Joe Origins: Snake Eyes star Henry Golding, the hardest part of filming the G.I. Joe spinoff came during the first week of production.

"To be honest, it was painful," Golding explained to NME. “It’s definitely much more of a martial arts film than a superhero movie. It’s very, very physical. I fucking hated it in the beginning because I couldn’t even squat down and go to the bathroom. The first week was literal hell. I think I cried on the phone to my manager. I was like: ‘I don’t know what I’m doing!’"

"Snake Eyes has just blown me away,” Golding continued. “They’ve recreated G.I. Joe into something very cool and a far throw from what we’ve seen thus far on the big screen. I think there’s room for many spin-offs, to be honest. This, I think, will be the launch of a brand-new franchise."

G.I. Joe Origins: Snake Eyes centers on G.I. Joe's famous ninja commando as he joins the Arashikage clan. The film will also explore the origins of Snake Eyes' and Storm Shadow's rivalry. A follow-up film is currently in development from Paramount and Hasbro's film arm, Allspark Pictures. Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse will pen that script.

Directed by Robert Schwentke, G.I. Joe Origins: Snake Eyes stars Henry Golding as Snake Eyes, Andre Koji as Storm Shadow, Iko Uwais as Hard Master, Úrsula Corberó as Baroness and Samara Weaving as Scarlett. The film arrives in theaters on Oct. 2021.
