Of all the members of G.I. Joe, Snake Eyes is one of the most popular -- and the most mysterious. The ninja master's true name and identity have been cloaked in shadow for years, but that will change when his solo film hits theaters.

G.I. Joe Origins: Snake Eyes will finally reveal Snake Eyes' real name as he trains with the Arashikage ninja clan in Japan. Star Henry Golding also revealed that the film draws heavily from Japanese cinema, thanks to director Robert Schwentke.

"Robert is a huge Japanese cinephile, everything from [Akira] Kurosawa to just the phenomenal Spaghetti Westerns of samurai movies," Golding told Entertainment Weekly, noting that the film would utilize Japanese sword-fighting techniques. "A lot of attention to cultural detail was put into this movie. There are not a lot of movies that are allowed to film in Japan and we went to some amazing, amazing places. The authenticity is there."

G.I. Joe: Origins: Snake Eyes was originally slated to premiere this October, but was pushed back to 2021 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Another G.I. Joe based film is in the works at Paramount Pictures, with Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse writing the script.

Directed by Robert Schwentke, G.I. Joe Origins: Snake Eyes stars Henry Golding as Snake Eyes, Andre Koji as Storm Shadow, Iko Uwais as Hard Master, Úrsula Corberó as Baroness and Samara Weaving as Scarlett. The film arrives in theaters on Oct. 2021.
