Adult Swim's Smiling Friends will be available to stream on HBO Max in one month's time.The official Adult Swim Twitter account confirmed that Smiling Friends Season 1 will be available to stream on HBO Max starting Wednesday, Feb. 9. Responding to a fan comment regarding the show's streaming status, the account wrote, "In a world struggling with a pandemic and divisive politics it's increasingly difficult to see right vs wrong through the crippling fog of disinformation. So it's comforting to know that [Smiling Friends] will be available February 9th on [HBO Max]."
Created by Zach "psychicpebbles" Hadel and Michael Cusack, Smiling Friends centers around the employees of Smiling Friends Inc., a small company dedicated to bringing happiness to its clients. The show primarily focuses on the characters Pim and Charlie, voiced by Cusack and Hadel, respectively.
Smiling Friends also features a number of guest stars, such as actors like Finn Wolfhard, Jane Badler and Gilbert Gottfried, as well as internet personalities like film critic Mike Stoklasa (of RedLetterMedia), Newgrounds creator Tom Fulp, Salad Fingers creator David Firth, YouTube narrator Chills (of "Burger King Foot Lettuce" fame), animator Harry Partridge (Saturday Morning Watchmen) and the Angry Video Game Nerd himself, James Rolfe.
Hadel and Cusack's original Smiling Friends pilot, "Desmond's Big Day Out," first aired on Adult Swim on April 1, 2020 as part of the programming block's annual April Fool's Day event. 13 months later, in May 2021, Adult Swim ordered Smiling Friends to series. The show officially premiered on Adult Swim earlier this month on the evening of Sunday, Jan. 9 at midnight (so, technically the morning of Monday, Jan. 10), with the network rebroadcasting "Desmond's Big Day Out" before debuting the new episodes.
Smiling Friends Season 1 consists eight episodes in total. All eight episodes have been released on Adult Swim's website. The first two are available to stream for free, while the remaining six require a cable provider login. When the show is added to HBO Max on Feb. 9, it will join a slew of other Adult Swim shows already on the platform, such as The Boondocks, The Venture Bros. and Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
