Super Smash Bros Ultimate has captivated fans worldwide with its extensive fighters list. Boasting over 70 fighters, Smash Ultimate's roster is the biggest in the series, catering to fans' delight by giving characters from across Nintendo and gaming history the spotlight.  But for those that don't make the cut, Ultimate has a compromise through its unique feature, Spirits. An alternative to trophies with a bit of extra spice, Spirits can be used to boost the efficiency of fighters' abilities. With hundreds to choose from, each serving different functions, the possibilities are endless.

Spirits function as an archive of video game titles throughout history, representing characters and items both past and present. So it's no wonder that Nintendo decided to include one of their most recent titles, Ring Fit Adventure. In a tweet from Nintendo Versus, it was announced that the small but iconic cast of the new workout RPG are coming into the fold. From March 13-18, the Spirit Event "Spirit's Fit for a Fight" will add three more to its already gigantic library. Whether those are the heroic Trainee, the wise Ring or sinister Dragaux, is yet to be revealed.

During events, these featured new Spirit appear on the Spirit Board for players to battle. These battles occur under special conditions, typically meant to replicate what a match with the character would look like if they were a fighter. For example, in their Spirit Battle, the Able Sisters from Animal Crossing (who are three blue hedgehogs) are represented by three Sonics. Upon winning, players get the chance to earn these limited items.

Given the rather demanding nature of Ring Fit Adventure, perhaps this Spirit Event will be just as challenging, though maybe not as physically exhausting. Based on the announcement, it appears that these opponents will have quite a bit of power behind them. Plus, it's exciting to speculate what kinds of upgrades spirits of this caliber might contribute when equipped to a fighter.

The Ring Fit Spirit Event for Smash Ultimate.

Ring Fit Adventure released on the Nintendo Switch to much fanfare, with players praising it for balancing gameplay and exercise in a way no other fitness game has done before. Jam-packed with hours of nonstop calorie-burning and muscle-tearing action, it makes for an interesting mirror to Smash Ultimate, as both continue to hold players' attentions long after their initial releases.

Ultimate has given players such a vast catalog that fans can only wonder who could possibly be featured next as either Spirits or full-fledged fighters. With so many franchises already included and more content constantly being added through free and paid DLC, it's no wonder why the game has been heralded as one of the best in the franchise.

While some are excited that Ring Fit is being represented in Ultimate, others can't help but express slight disappointment that this event may signify that the Ring Fit Trainee won't be added as a playable fighter for Smash in the next batch of DLC. Seeing heavyweight fighters like Bowser go toe-to-toe with Dragaux, or poster-children Mario and Trainee duke it out would have been a sight to behold. Still, it's nice to see Nintendo making the effort to give Ring Fit a platform to stand on in the busy world of Smash.
