The former Superman will fill the role of an accomplished police lieutenant named Marcus Pierce, according to Variety. The character is described as "reserved and well-respected, like Lucifer (Tom Ellis), he’s charming, charismatic and handsome. So when Pierce starts developing a connection with Decker (Lauren German), the devil comes out in Lucifer."

Welling played Clark Kent for 10 seasons on The CW's Smallville, which chronicled Clark's teenage years before taking up the mantle of Superman.
