Smallville's Green Arrow, Justin Hartley, may be angling for an appearance on The CW's Arrow, but he was considered for a spinoff of his own, once upon a time.

According to Hartley, there was talking of giving his Emerald Archer a starring role in a separate series, which would have also featured Erica Durance's Lois Lane.

"While I was on the show, while I was on Smallville, there were several different spinoff ideas that they had. They wanted to do a spinoff called Metropolis or something like that, I heard whispers of that," he said on Inside of You, the podcast of his former co-star Michael Rosenbaum. "It was Lois and Oliver in Metropolis, and whatever that was. They were trying to extend the life of the show."

Hartley's Oliver Queen debuted in Season 6 of Smallville and, after his romance with Lois fizzled, his rivalry with Tom Welling's Clark Kent blossomed into the formation of the Justice League. Oliver went on to wed Chloe Sullivan, and Lois, of course, ended up with Clark, so it's safe to say, this spinoff would have altered Smallville's complexion drastically.

The revelation comes as Warner Bros. is developing a Metropolis TV series for the DC Universe streaming service, in which Lex Luthor and Lois investigate strange occurrences in the city. Perhaps Hartley can muster a guest appearance there.
