Official Press Release
Widgey Q. Butterfluff is the most sickeningly cute person in the Snugglepump Valley, a place that has been stuck on Saturday Morning for over twenty years. With little more than a sunny personality, a hearty appetite, and a figure-flattering sundress, the eponymous heroine of SLG Publishing’s new graphic novel, Widgey Q. Butterfluff by Steph Cherrywell, due out in January 2010.
Widgey lives in a world straight out of a 1980s Saturday-morning cartoon, complete with her mischievous troublemaking friend Buster, the wacky Professor Schoolbug, and the dastardly villain Lord Meanskull. But somehow her adventures are a little… skewed — fraught with motivation-free nefarious plots, accidental drug use, and baffling sexual tension, all depicted with cute, cartoony artwork.
“Widgey was a kid in the eighties and had a lot of the usual stock adventures, but instead of fading out and then reappearing in the 2000’s as a direct-to-DVD computer-animated movie, she just aged normally,” explained Cherrywell. “So now she’s in her thirties and still living the same lifestyle, living on cake and drooling over frilly party dresses. I think it’ll be enjoyable to anyone likes who likes cute things, cartoons, or things making fun of cute things and cartoons.”
Widgey Q. Butterfluff is a 136-page black-and-white graphic novel made up of short vignettes. It can be pre-ordered from comic book stores now with the Diamond code NOV090583. Its ISBN is 978-1-59362-184-1. A preview is available at SLG Publishing’s website, www.slgcomic.com.
