The dragons of Skyrim know only one fear. In their tongue he is "Dovahkiin," but now it can be whatever the player wants thanks to a new mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition.

The developer of this mod, Dan, showcased players putting it to good use. Whenever an NPC refers to or addresses the player, they say the actual character name rather than the boilerplate title of "Dragonborn." Given the chance, gamers will bestow unique names upon their avatars based on fictional characters, modern figures and role models, or a non-sensical stream of letters and numbers. With this mod, they can now force NPCs to refer to them as they wish.

The appropriately named "Say My Name" mod is currently available only for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition-- a remastered version of the game that came out in 2016. Along with improved visuals, the game comes with Skyrim's three DLCs: Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn. Its successor, the Anniversary Edition, also includes the expansions but whether the same mods are still accessible is unknown.

Since Skyrim's original 2011 release, mods have become a staple of the game and its community. Modders have created features ranging from simple cosmetic changes to entire crossovers with other fantasy games. Outside of the most dramatically game-changing Skyrim mods available, there are a significant number that simply improve the core aspects of the game's game visual and audio quality. These continual updates by the modding community have kept this Elder Scrolls installment a popular and enjoyable game to play a decade after its initial release.

Bethesda Game Studios, the developer of the open-world game, has encouraged fans to add and expand upon their game. For those wishing to make their own or add existing mods to the legendary title, they can take advantage of Bethesda's modding tool--the Creation Kit. Using the tool, players can create their own version of Skyrim with unique PC races, NPCs, weapons and armor, and visuals.

This mod can be downloaded at Nexus Mods. Other mods can also be found on Nexus Mods as well as the Steam Workshop and the Bethesda website. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
