Rumors surrounding the next director of the James Bond films have been shaken and stirred over the past weeks, with a familiar name once again rising to the top.
It appears that Skyfall director Sam Mendes is considering another turn behind the wheel of Agent 007's Astin Martin. Deadline reports that Mendes is in talks with Sony Pictures and MGM to direct the 24th installment in the Bond franchise, despite earlier reports to the contrary.
Mendes previously stated that other commitments, such as the West End launch of the Charlie and the Chocloate Factory musical and a production of King Lear, would prevent him from directing another Bond movie. It appears that producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are willing to wait for Mendes' schedule to clear, with a production start eyed for next year.
The news of Mendes' probable return comes just hours after a shortlist emerged at Variety featuring other possible Bond directors that included the likes of Drive's Nicolas Winding Refn, The King's Speech Oscar winner Tom Hooper, Harry Potter veteran David Yates and Iron Man 3's Shane Black.
