Universal Orlando this morning unveiled plans for "Skull Island: Reign of Kong," a new theme park attraction set to open in summer 2016. The timing is surely no coincidence, as the King Kong origin film "Kong: Skull Island" will premiere in March 2017 from Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures.

Part of Universal's Islands of Adventure, "Skull Island" will allow visitors to navigate perilous jungles, explore ancient ruins, encounter hostile natives and enter caves crawling with prehistoric creatures before coming face to face with Kong himself.

"King Kong is a Hollywood movie legend and a huge part of both our history and our future,” Mike West, executive producer of Universal Creative, said in a statement. “He gives us the opportunity to tap into everything that makes our film history so special and everything that makes our theme park attractions so spectacular. We can’t wait to bring him to life in such an epic way."
