SK8 the Infinity has drawn in a global audience since its first season was released in 2021. The popular sports anime follows Reki and Canadian transfer student Langa as they bond over a love of skateboarding and take part in underground skateboarding tournaments, providing a wide range of heart-warming episodes that often have fans on the edge of their seats.

Fans of SK8 the Infinity have been pleasantly surprised following recent news of the anime's confirmed return. Announced over the weekend, a new OVA as well as a Season 2 are in the works, and the main team from production house BONES will be returning to bring the next steps to life. The reveal was posted to the official SK8 the Infinity Twitter account alongside a teaser video to give a taste of what is to come. The news was then officially confirmed in a statement on Crunchyroll, where it was also announced that returning staff members such as director Hiroko Otsumi and character designer Michinori Chiba will be working on the projects.

In the anime's first season, high schoolers Reki Kyan and Langa Hasegawa were regulars at the dangerous and highly secret underground skateboard competition "S". Reki brings snowboarder Langa to the event following his move from Canada to Japan, and the teen becomes addicted to the brawls that erupt throughout the races.

Despite having no knowledge of skateboarding, Langa falls in love with the sport and quickly becomes very good. This is upsetting for Reki, a die-hard skateboarding fan who never seems to be good enough to win a race. He quickly watched Langa transform from a clueless student to a pro, surpassing his mentor with ease.

The boys argue and grow distant while Reki comes to terms with Langa's unnatural talent and his lack thereof. Meanwhile, Langa struggles to find meaning in skateboarding without his friend, agreeing to increasingly dangerous races to feel the rush.

Eventually, the pair realize there's more to skateboarding than winning and both regain their passion and motivation for the sport. Langa finds himself in a dangerous race against Adam, but with his newfound drive and a skateboard customized by Reki, he scrapes a win. Langa managed to dethrone the terrifying reigning champion, which is something even fellow experienced skateboarders Joe and Cherry Blossom were never able to do.

As of this writing, the official release dates for SK8 the Infinity Season 2 and the OVA are yet to be announced. However, fans can expect Studio BONES to break the silence with some additional information and an official trailer soon.
