though $18 million may not seem like a great opening for a movie, in Sinister's case, that figure represents six times its production budget. Debuting last weekend, the horror film landed the No. 3 spot in the North American box office.

Deadline reports that this performance from Blumhouse head Jason Blum and director Scott Derrickson was good enough to earn them an opportunity to adapt a true horror master's work. With screenwriter Scott Teems, they're developing an adaptation of Stephen King's novella The Breathing Room.

The story centers on elderly Dr. Emlyn McCarron, who tells the tale of a woman so determined to give birth to her baby that she literally battles death and dismemberment to make it happen. The title refers to McCarron's revolutionary-in-the-'30s method for breathing during labor.

The story was first published in King's anthology Different Seasons which includes the source material for movies The Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me and Apt Pupil.
