No sooner had Dimension Films announced the addition of Joseph Gordon-Levitt to Sin City: A Dame to Kill For than news broke that Law & Order: Special Victims Unit alum Christopher Meloni has joined the cast of the Robert Rodriguez/Frank Miller sequel.

According to Deadline, the actor will play a cop in the follow-up to 2005's Sin City, which weaves together the second volume of Miller’s acclaimed Dark Horse crime series and the short story “Just Another Saturday Night” with new tales, including one called “The Long, Bad Night.”

Meloni, who before Law & Order: SVU was best known for his role on HBO's Oz, left the NBC police drama in 2011 after 12 seasons. He most recently appeared on HBO's True Blood, and will next be seen as Col. Hardy in director Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. In A Dame to Kill For, he joins joins returning cast members Mickey Rourke as Marv, Jessica Alba as Nancy, Rosario Dawson as Gail and Jaime King as Goldie/Wendy, along with new additions Gordon-Levitt as Johnny, Dennis Haysbert as Manute and Jamie Chung as Miho.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For opens Oct. 4.
