The Sims is a series filled with many different paths for players to explore through virtual lives, some of which are a little less grounded in reality than others. With a staggering number of expansion packs for each of the four games in the series, the number of skills, hobbies, locations and other game experiences can keep Simmers playing for countless hours. Jobs are certainly no exception, with around ten career tracks in each base game alone.

There are tons of unique career paths for players to check out in the Sims series of games, even if most of those jobs involve Sims driving away in a carpool for a few hours and reappearing at the end of their shift.  The rewards and unique events that different professions bring can bring huge changes to a household in the Sims and give players unique ways to change their gameplay. Here are five of the best careers and jobs from throughout the Sims series, including both base game careers and those introduced in the overwhelming number of expansions.

Writer (Sims 3)

The work-from-home writing career in the Sims 3 might not seem like anything special on the surface, but it actually provides a few significant advantages for a Sim. It's a fairly slow-paced job at the start, as Sims will only be able to write a single book a day. However, with the right lifetime rewards, Sims can start putting out multiple books a day and raise their skill in writing up to a point where each book goes on to be a best seller. It's certainly not a realistic depiction of how novel writing goes, but in The Sims 3, it can easily make a Sim a millionaire within weeks.

Scientist (Sims 3)

The Sims 3's base-game scientist career has a few things going for it. It's one of the better-paying careers in the game and also happens to require the Logic skill. The Logic skill in The Sims 3 is a great one for a Sim to have since it helps them repair household appliances and even upgrade them with new functions, such as auto-clean. However, the scientist career's real draw is a special event that players can access at the very end.

If a Sim has reached level 9 in this career path and has had a Sim in their household pass away, they'll be given the opportunity to bring the dead back to life. Whilst this event won't fully resurrect a dead Sim, it will allow players to add that Sim's ghost to the family, making it one of the few ways to play as a ghost without starting as one in Create-A-Sim. Players should make sure that they hold onto the tombstones of dead Sims since they'll be required to bring them to the science building for the resurrection to work.

Politician (Sims 4)

Sims 4: A Woman in pink and gold sari talks to a man in a maroon jacket.

The politician career path in The Sims 4 isn't as rewarding as others but is still tons of fun to do. This is one of the few career paths that gives Sims plenty to do outside of work without forcing them to a unique location. As Sims continue to do their promotion tasks, they'll earn new socialization options that can drastically boost their relationship with other Sims. This career path is certainly much more about the journey rather than the destination.

Natural Scientist (Sims 2)

This career was introduced in The Sims 2 expansion The Sims 2: University and requires a college degree. The career itself is very high-risk high-reward, with each stage in this job paying a fairly heft 1k simoleons but with the chance cards, or random events of this career having a fairly frequent chance to get the Sim fired from their job. The natural scientist job makes this list due to how iconic its end-game reward of the Cowplant has become with The Sims series.

Music Mixing (Sims 4)

Music Mixing isn't a normal career that Sims can specifically apply for and is instead a hobby used to generate a fairly steady income. Whilst this means that players will get less traditional rewards from music mixing, the job makes up for it by giving out consistent rewards in the form of fame points and the associated perks. When a Sim releases new music, they'll gain fame depending on their Media Production skill.

Music Mixing is also interactive to an extent, with the player able to pick when certain instruments in a predetermined track play. Sims can use the music mixer to play their custom mixes at any point or send the mixes off to be published for money. Custom mixes can even get played on the radio, which also causes Sims to freak out and get a huge mood boost, which is really fun to see.
