The Simpsons will be presented in its original aspect ratio on Disney+ starting in late May.

The news was announced through a tweet from Simpsons showrunner Al Jean. On his Twitter account, Jean announced that Simpsons episodes would be available in their original 4:3 aspect ratio on Disney+, beginning on May 28th.

Jean's tweet reads, "The even more important most important tweet I can make! As always you have been heard! @theSimpsons episodes will be available in their original 4:3 aspect ratio on #DisneyPlus beginning 5/28."

Disney+ debuted on Nov. 12 with every single episode of The Simpsons in its library. However, a fan outcry soon emerged over how the aspect ratio of early episodes of the program had been altered. Disney later clarified that this decision had been done in an attempt to provide visual consistency with later seasons of the show, which are done in a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Since then, Disney had promised that the first nineteen seasons of The Simpsons in their proper aspect ratio would be eventually uploaded to Disney+. However, news remained vague on when these episodes would drop until Jean's announcement today.

The Simpsons was created by Matt Groening and developed by James L. Brooks, Groening and Sam Simon. Brooks, Groening and Al Jean are executive producers of the series from Gracie Films Production in association with 20th Century Fox Television. The series airs Sunday nights at 8 p.m. on Fox.
