Producer Simon Kinberg is living the geek dream: Not only did he recently sign a contract with Fox to more fully develop the studio's Marvel film properties, he's also part of the Star Wars Rebels development team.

In a new video from Lucasfilm, Kinberg discusses the upcoming Disney XD animated series, and sares some behind-the-scenes snippets and memories of the movie franchise.

"We talked a lot about what the show should be," he said. "The guiding principle for us was, we wanted it to be true to the original movie but we wanted it to be a different story with different characters." He added that the series will be a new tapestry for fans to explore. "The hope and the dream is that the experience of Rebels is similar to the experience of watching A New Hope, and Empire, and Jedi for the first time."

According to Kinberg, one of the most intimidating factors of the series was creating The Inquisitor, a villain who can stand up to Darth Vader.

"Rebels is going to be the first point of entry for a new generation of Star Wars fans and it will hopefully be a point of return for existing Star Wars fans," Kinberg said to close out the video, which you can watch below.

Star Wars Rebels is scheduled to debut on Disney XD next fall.
