A feature film starring the Marvel Comics galactic-traveler Silver Surfer is in the works at 20th Century Fox, with writer Brian K. Vaughan (Runaways) attached to pen the script.

The news comes as the fate of Fox's X-Men film franchise is up in the air after Disney's move to acquire the studio's TV and film assets.

A report from THR notes that Fox has several "secret" projects in the works, with Vaughan's Silver Surfer listed as one example. An executive connected to the project is quoted as saying, "We are going 100 miles per hour," meaning Fox is moving forward with its superhero films, regardless of the Disney/Fox buyout.

Vaughan is the co-creator of Marvel's Runaways with artist Adrian Alphona, which was adapted into a live-action series for the streaming network Hulu. His other works include Y: The Last Man with artist Pia Guerra, along with his and artist Fiona Staples' Saga.

It was revealed last month that a Kitty Pryde solo film is in development at Fox by Tim Miller, director of 2016’s Deadpool, and believed to be written by former Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis.

The Silver Surfer starred in the 2007 film, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, where he was played by Doug Jones and voiced by Laurence Fishburne.
