Silver Surfer is one of the most iconic and powerful characters in the Marvel Universe. As the Herald Of Galactus, it was Silver Silver’s job to travel the universe in search of new planets for the god-like being to devour. Naturally, Silver Surfer is a hero in his own right and is remembered for disobeying and fighting back against Galactus.

While the Silver Surfer is well known, even among mainstream audiences, the extent of his vast powers isn’t exactly well known. Therefore, it would be pertinent to explain just how interesting and how powerful the Silver Surfer is.

10 Doesn’t Need To Eat

Silver Surfer

The normality of heroes often leads to some strange questions from fans. For instance, how come fans never see Batman using the toilet, or very rarely see the character doing some of the more mundane features of life, such as eating.

The reason why fans never see the Silver Surfer doing any of these things is that he doesn’t have to do them. The Power Cosmic is enough to keep the Surfer going.

9 Tampered Soul

When the Silver Surfer gained the Power Cosmic and was given the task of finding planets for Galactus to devour, his initial plan was to only lead the Devourer of Worlds to planets that weren't inhabited. This would help prevent millions or billions of deaths.

However, Galactus was aware of this and tampered the Silver Surfer's soul so that he wouldn't enact his plan to lead Galactus to uninhabited planets.

8 Carnage

The symbiotes are one of the mainstays of the Marvel Universe. While Venom will always be the most iconic and infamous symbiote, another that has a far worse reputation in terms of its love of violence, destructive capacity, and downright sadistic nature is Carnage.

While Carnage will always be known for its bond with Cletus Kasady, for a period of time the Carnage symbiote actually bonded with the Silver Surfer, creating the Carnage Cosmic.

7 Healing Powers

Healing factors are a huge element of modern comic books, with Wolverine and Deadpool being the most notable characters with healing factors. While Silver Surfer has his own healing factor, this isn’t the main focus of this entry.

The Silver Surfer is capable of healing other characters, preventing them from succumbing to injuries. However, he is unable to resurrect the dead and return those to life.

6 Norrin Radd

Silver Surfer from Marvel Comics

While the Silver Surfer is known by this name, it wasn’t the name he would always be known as. Prior to being the Silver Surfer, the character was actually a normal being, known by the name of Norrin Radd.

In order to save his planet and his loved one from the hunger of Galactus, Norrin Radd bargains with Galactus and becomes his Herald in exchange for the planet’s safety.

5 Surfboard Prison

Marvel Comics The Silver Surfer

Silver Surfer gets his name from two things. The first is his silvery body, the second is his silvery surfboard. While this surfboard’s primary function is as a mode of travel across the universe, it has other functions.

One of the less known of these functions is as a prison. The Silver Surfer can use his surfboard to imprison individuals.

4 Speed Of Light Travel

The fact that Silver Surfer is the Herald of Galactus means that the Silver Surfer must travel across the universe in order to find planets for the Devour of Worlds to eat. The bast size of the universe means that traveling could be problematic.

However, the Silver Surfer possesses the ability to travel faster the speed of light, allowing the Silver Surfer to find new planets for Galactus to devour.

3 Power Levels

As the Herald of Galactus, the Silver Surfer gains his powers from the same source as his master, the Power Cosmic. This power cosmic, even though a fraction of that held by Galactus, makes Silver Surfer a very powerful being indeed.

This power is the root of all of Silver Surfer’s powers, giving him super strength, among the other powers he has been granted with on this list. Despite only being given a fraction of the Power Cosmic, he is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe.

2 Confined To Earth

Galactus and Silver Surfer look at each other in Marvel Comics.

In the Silver Surfer's most iconic story, he is sent to Earth to prepare it for Galactus. However, the Surfer would eventually be convinced by the Fantastic Four to turn against Galactus, with the Surfer helping to save the Earth from the Devourer of World's hungry appetite.

While the Surfer would save the Earth, this would come at a price for the Surfer. After being driven from Earth, Galactus confined the Surfer to Earth.

1 Mantis Relationship

Mantis Guardians of the Galaxy

Relationships between superheroes are some of the most talked-about events in comic books, with Batman and Catwoman's most recent relationship making headlines around the world. While it wasn't as widespread as Batman and Catwoman's relationship, Silver Surfer also had his own romance.

The Silver Surfer had a relationship with the 'Cosmic Madonna', Mantis. With regard to the MCU, perhaps this could happen on-screen. After all, it seems likely that the Guardians of the Galaxy would run into the Silver Surfer before anyone else.
