Marvel Comics today released a trailer for the Silver Surfer: Black series, the first issue of which released today. The trailer explains what the titular cosmic hero has been up to prior to the start of his new adventure and teases the uniquely trippy art by series artist Tradd Moore.

The trailer starts off by catching readers up on the state of the Silver Surfer when the series begins. Last time fans saw the cosmic hero, he had been sucked into a black hole after saving several characters from the same fate. When Silver Surfer: Black kicks off, Norrin Radd will be looking to escape a strange, new land.

“Tradd’s art in this book is like nothing you’ve ever seen in a Marvel comic before,” said series editor Darren Shan. “When people see it, their heads will explode.”

For those worrying that the Surfer’s story may be too complex to catch up on, fear not. Writer Donny Cates says that the series will be new reader-friendly, but it’s not a self-contained space story. There’s more to it than that.

“It is not just a cosmic book,” said Cates. “There are threads and tendrils that attach to everything that I have ever written.”
