Marvel Comics today announced a new Silver Surfer miniseries by writer Donny Cates (Guardians of the GalaxyVenom) and artist Tradd Moore (All-New Ghost RiderLuthor Strode).

Silver Surfer: Black #1 will pick up on the events in Cates' Guardians of the Galaxy #1 when Norrin Radd was sucked into a black hole along with many of the cosmic heroes of the Marvel Universe by the Black Order.

“When Donny Cates wrote the first issue of the new Guardians of the Galaxy series, we both agreed that Silver Surfer’s adventure wasn’t going to end there, that there was still more story to be told about what happened to all the cosmic heroes that got sucked into the Black Order’s wormhole," Marvel Editor Darren Shan said in a statement. "But Donny’s imagination really kicked into gear when artist Tradd Moore signed on! Readers won’t realize it, but Silver Surfer: Black is a culmination of everything Donny has been writing since his Thanos run. And Tradd Moore is delivering some of the craziest visuals seen in a Marvel Comic today!”

Moore's cover to Silver Surfer: Black #1 appears to make a significant change to the cosmic hero, by altering his left hand. Instead of the hand being a silver metallic color like the rest of his body, we instead see what looks to be the inside of it highlighted in various colors of the rainbow. It's possible Silver Surfer's time inside the black hole has altered his physiology, similar to what happened to Thanos' brother, Starfox, who now has a disfigured face and is confined to a floating wheelchair.

Silver Surfer: Black #1 by Donny Cates and Tradd Moore, with a variant cover by Nick Bradshaw, goes on sale in June from Marvel Comics.
