The working title for Sony Pictures Television's live-action Spider-Man spinoff series starring Cindy Moon/Silk has surfaced -- and it pays tribute to Cindy's favorite pastime.
According to the June 24, 2021 edition of Production Weekly, Sony's Silk series is currently in development under the working title "Hockey Queens." This is a reference to the fact that, in the Marvel comic books, Cindy Moon has quite an affinity for hockey, having played on her school's team.
Created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, Cindy Moon first appeared in 2014's Amazing Spider-Man #1, before officially taking on the mantle of Silk a few months later in Amazing Spider-Man #4. As revealed in 2015's Silk #1 by Robbie Thompson and Stacey Lee, during her teenage years, Cindy played for her school's hockey team with her secret boyfriend, Hector Cervantez, aka Spectro.
However, Cindy's mother, Nari Moon, wanted her daughter to focus more on her studies, given her photographic memory. As such, Nari forced Cindy to quit the hockey team and sent her on a field trip to General Techtronics. While on the trip, Cindy was bitten by radioactive spider -- the very same spider that bit Peter Parker and gave him his powers as Spider-Man. When Cindy's own spider powers began to manifest, she was taken by Ezekiel Sims, who tried to train her to use them. However, Ezekiel locked Cindy in a bunker with years' worth of food and other resources when he discovered she was being tracked by Morlun.
While Cindy could have left at any time, she knew the consequences of doing so, and remained in the bunker for 13 years. Upon learning of Cindy's story, Peter freed her from the bunker, informing her that Morlun was dead and that she was free to live her life -- though the villain soon returned from the dead (again). It's also worth mentioning that, due to having been bit by the exact same spider, Peter and Cindy have an incredibly strong attraction to one another.
Last year, it was reported that Sony was developing a live-action television series starring Silk, with Lauren Moon (Good Trouble) in talks to write and Amazon in talks to acquire the rights to the series and stream it via Prime Video. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are attached to executive produce Silk alongside longtime Spider-Man EP Amy Pascal. It was recently reported that Tom Spezialy (Watchmen) would serve as showrunner.
