Sword Art Online has several amazing female characters in its cast. They’re all very different from each other, and they each bring something special to the fabric of the isekai series, adding their own skills and personalities to the plot and storytelling.
Two of the most popular and well-loved of these characters are Silica and Lisbeth. Both of them have strong personalities and cheerful dispositions, and both of them have character flaws that they work through and overcome. It isn’t easy to decide which of them is the best girl when both have proven themselves so lovable over the course of the series.
10 Silica: Supports Her Friends
Maybe the most important trait for a supporting character in an ensemble cast, Silica is literally very supportive of her friends and their goals. She does whatever she can to protect and help the people who mean the most to her, and these people mean a great deal to her as well. She feels very passionately about her relationships, especially regarding Pina, and can work herself up into something of rage at the idea of being without it.
9 Lisbeth: Gets Along With Everyone
It’s hard to have a more likable quality than literally being liked by everyone one meets, and Lisbeth is exactly that person. She seems to get along with everyone, regardless of whether they have compatible personalities. She feels insulted by Kirito after their first meeting, but she still ends up going on a quest to help him. And she sees Asuna as a rival for Kirito’s attention, but she still also sees her good qualities and doesn’t let it stand in the way of them being friendly.
8 Silica: Acknowledges Her Own Mistakes
One of the most difficult things for anybody to do is admit when they’re wrong, so it’s an incredibly likable thing for Silica to admit that she has made a mistake. Because she’s considered a powerful player due to her Beast Tamer abilities, she enters the Forest of Wandering with something of a big head and ends up getting pretty lost. The fact that she acknowledges that this choice was arrogant is pretty admirable and shows her good character.
7 Lisbeth: Takes Pride In Her Blacksmithing
Lisbeth meets Kirito in her blacksmith shop when he comes in looking for a new weapon. He immediately breaks what she considers her best sword when trying to test it out. Unsurprisingly, this doesn’t exactly make her happy.
But while she is initially angry at him and feels disrespected, she also acknowledges that she'll have to work even harder if she wants to be a great blacksmith. Her diligence about her trade is admirable, and the fact that she works hard to improve makes her a great character in the series.
6 Silica: Gets Flustered When Thinking About Romance
This is probably one of Silica’s cutest qualities. It shows her inexperience in the romance department, which makes sense since she’s fairly young in the series. But her earnestness about it is also incredibly endearing. Silica finds the idea of romantic relationships so overwhelming that just being near other couples who are having romantic moments can be enough to make her shy and embarrassed, and potentially being in those situations herself is even harder.
5 Lisbeth: Loves To Tease Her Friends
Sword Art Online is a dire situation for everyone who’s trapped in it. The characters live in a virtual reality that they cannot escape, and every day they’re there, they can find themselves in more critical dangers. If they die in the game, they die in real life, which can be hard for anyone to cope with. But Lisbeth’s good attitude and her love of teasing her friends to raise their spirits really help keep everyone from becoming too bogged down by their fates.
4 Silica: First Player To Tame A Feathered Little Dragon
Being a Beast Tamer is one of the most difficult accomplishments a player can achieve in the game. There are very few of them, and they’re well-respected because of that.
Silica has never played a virtual reality online role-playing game before Sword Art Online, so it’s extra surprising that she has become a great Beast Tamer. More surprising is that she has tamed a Feathered Little Dragon, Pina, because no one in the game has ever been able to before.
3 Lisbeth: Intent On Proving Herself
As mentioned above, Lisbeth has strong feelings about her blacksmithing abilities. She doesn’t like the idea of anyone being able to say she’s not the greatest blacksmith in Sword Art Online. Kirito using his strength to break her best sword makes her angry, but it doesn’t crush her spirit, and she sets out to make sure that she can make the best sword possible for him. She becomes so determined to prove that she insists he uses weapons from no one else, showing her pride in her work.
2 Silica: She’s A Mascot For Her Parties
Silica’s nature makes her very popular among members of the parties that she joins up with, to the point that those parties tend to view her as their mascot. They look to her for her cheery disposition to keep their spirits up. But they also know that having her in their parties makes their parties stronger since she is a Beast Tamer, which is a scarce status to hold in Sword Art Online. She improves every group she joins just by being there, which is a pretty admirable quality.
1 Lisbeth: Mature Enough To Acknowledge Kirito’s Feelings For Asuna
Lisbeth insists on going on a quest with Kirito after they meet, and in spending this time together, she develops feelings for him. These feelings make her passionate about him only carrying weapons that she makes for him. But once she’s aware of Asuna and the relationship they have, she chooses to step aside to allow them to be together without interfering. This maturity in the face of heartbreak makes it very easy to see why Lisbeth would be the best person in the series.
